What is an air brush tan?
Airbrush tanning is body airbrushing using an FDA approved ingredient, DHA, (dihydroxyacetone). It is the same ingredient in all the safe self-tanning products.
How does the tan work?
The tanning solution contains a tanning agent called DHA. DHA (dihydroxyacetone) reacts with the amino acids (proteins) in the outermost layer of your skin. It takes about 4 to 8 hours for the reaction to complete and look tan however we suggest allowing a full 8 hours to ensure the richest color possible.
Is this safe?
The active ingredient is dihydroxyacetone and has been approved by the FDA for cosmetic applications. The balance of the spray is composed of inert carrying agents. We have not, to date, had any such reaction to our product, but we do know that some self tanning lotions using DHA have had customers experience a rash that lasts for a couple of hours and then disappears.
I like tanning in the sun and using tanning beds. Why should I change?
We know how wonderfully warm the sun feels and how relaxing tanning beds are. We use them as well! You may chose an air brush tan if you need a quick tan and do not have the time to tan in a bed or in the sun. You may have a medical condition, or are taking medication that prevents you from tanning in a bed or in the sun. Or you may choose to avoid UV rays that may cause skin damage.
How long does the Air Brush Last?
The length of the tan is determined different factors. One is the skin type of each individual. A person's skin type will react to an air brush tan very much like it does to the natural sun.
It also depends on the amount of "wear." Only the outermost layer of skin is “tanned”. As the skin layer is lost, so is the tan. Wear comes from rubbing, soaking in water or long showers, tight clothing, “scratchy” clothing, or bleach. Another factor in the length of the tan is how hydrated you keep your skin. The more you moisturize the longer it will last. For most people, the tan will last 5-7 days, but some have lasted as long as 12 days.
How often should I tan?
We recommend only one session per week and in some cases we will provide a maximum of two applications in a week for certain skin types.
How long should I allow for the treatment?
The application takes about 10 minutes plus a couple minutes to dry enough to get dressed. Always, allow at least 20 minutes for an appointment.
What should I wear to be sprayed and will it damage my clothes?
You can wear a swim suit just as you would at the beach and our spray will wash out just fine with out damage to your suit or you may wish to avoid tan lines completely, it’s your choice. We also supply disposable bikini tops and bottoms.
Will I look orange?
No. The only way that would happen is if you use self tanners at home in addition to getting the spray tan. That would result in too much DHA (the tanning agent) and could result in an "orange" appearance. The tan will, however, look different on every skin type.
Will my tan look streaky or blotchy?
Our air brush tan has a delivery system that provides an even application thereby avoiding streaking and blotching.
How should I prepare for the tan?
It is important that you exfoliate your skin in preparation for your session. Skin that is exfoliated properly will make your tan look better, and it will last longer.
Remember to avoid showering after the tan for at least 8 hours.
